- Just shy of her fifth birthday she became a big sister to Beth and Jake.
- Joined t-ball, her first organized group sport.
- Finished her last year of preschool
- Began full-day Kindergarten at a brand new school
- Went on her first cruise
- Learned to ride her bike without training wheels
- Learned to read!!!
This past year has seen Abby change from a small child that still needed frequent direction to a young girl who is able to make decisions on her own. She's big into pretend and imagination and it's not unusual for her decide she'd rather spend some quiet time in her room in her own little world than to be out with friends. Not that she's anti-social (you can still find her playing with her neighborhood friends most days) but there's no longer the requirement for constant outside entertainment like there used to be. You can also carry on an in-depth conversation with her that takes completely unexpected twists and turns. And the poop and farting stories. Oh, my goodness, I thought that was a boy thing, but no. She has enough songs and stories and jokes to last all day and then will go for round two come night time.
Abby has continued her independent streak, but I love that she still needs her Mom snuggles every once in a while. And the morning routine where, as soon as I see her, I say "Good morning, Sunshine" is one that she still needs as just the other day she told me that I was wrong to call her Angel as her nickname was Sunshine. Her independence does cause waves between us every once in a while as she has her own method for doing things that may not be mine, but I'm trying to remember that this will make a good leader out of her someday.
Her kindness and thoughtfulness remains true. And her love for her brother and sister grows stronger every day. As does her annoyance at their desire to play in her room. :-) Her favorite colors have moved from blue and purple to also include red. And her fashion sense is something to behold (apparently plaids and flowers together are just right in her world). She still thinks the world of her Dad and can't wait to help him with his latest project.

I know at some point I'll need to stop posting her stats but she's still young enough that she doesn't see anything negative about her body yet (thank goodness - she's perfect and I'm not looking forward to the years where she thinks otherwise). She just knows that she's strong and healthy and can run fast. And that's all that matters to her. For once, she's not the tallest girl in her class! She's still up there in height (84th percentile) but height as dropped to 74th percentile where she'd typically been in the 85th-90th. Still my bigger baby, but not so big (or such a baby) any longer.
