I just emailed Nate our summer in/out of town schedule and Holy Hannah there are a few months where I wonder if we'll be home long enough to do laundry!
Abby came down with a cold this week but we were happy about it in a weird sort of way. It's been a month since Abby's been sick which means we've had a month of health! For a few months there it seemed like every two weeks she was coming down with some ailment/allergy/runny nose/cough, so the fact that she went longer between illnesses this time gives me hope that we've got her allergies under control and she's getting a stronger immune system.
It's June and it should be sunny skies and warm weather here. Instead we've had so much rain that my husband has declared that we no longer live in the desert. In all seriousness, though, this weather is NOT good for our cherry farmers. They're mere weeks away from harvest but all this rain is causing real concern over complete losses of crops. For those that don't know if cherries soak up too much water they split and then are considered damaged and won't sell. Helicopters are used to help blow the rain water off the cherries so they don't soak up as much water and we've been hearing helicopters daily for the past week or so. Hopefully drier weather will be here soon!
Once again Nate's hard work ethic has paid off monetarily for our family. We have two sea grass bushes in our back yard that we're wanting to remove as well as two massive root systems from old trees (one in front and one in back). Senske came out and gave us an estimate of around $600 to remove all these items, with the caveat that they may not be able to do much with the one root system in the backyard since it's so close to our sandbox and lawn edge. Nate was horrified at the cost and said he'd like a few weekends to attack these projects himself before calling Sense back. In one weekend we dug out the front root system which turned out to be a five minute job (and then planted a new Dogwood tree that I've been wanting for the longest time!) and then dug up one of the sea grass bushes. $300 or so dollars saved!
Abby is starting to throw little toddler fits. Today she got so frustrated that her ring links wouldn't break apart that she threw the whole chain of rings a few feet away from her in disgust. At dinner she arched her back and started kicking when Nate put her on the floor from her high chair when she wanted to sit in his lap. Finally, when we wouldn't let her go outside because it was pouring down rain she screamed and fell on to the floor until we redirected her to playing with other toys. It's totally cute right now but I can see this getting old fast.
We finally got our blinds up in the house (we've been without them since we redid the interior of the house back in early February). It's amazing how different a house with blinds is. Did you know that with blinds the sun doesn't enter your room at 5am? Or that when you want to watch a movie at 3pm you don't have to miss parts of the action sequence due to glare on your screen? It's amazing that we went for so long without them and I'm so happy that they're here now.
Looking forward to getting produce from the Farmer's market today. It really is amazing how the veggies tend to taste better and last longer when they're days away from the field rather than weeks or months!
