This past month Beth has had some major developmental milestones. She learned to roll over from front to back, held a bottle all on her own, transitioned to sitting in a high chair, moved from the swings to the bouncy chair, learned to blow raspberries, learned to roll from her back to her tummy, can be put in her crib sleepy and fall asleep without assistance, and finally easily gives the most adorable smiles.
Jake also hit some major developmental milestones. He learned to roll over from front to back, experienced his first fall off the couch due to Mom's inattentiveness, transitioned to sitting in a high chair, moved from the swings to the bouncy chair, held a bottle on his own, and tends to fall asleep easily in his car seat.
They both have moved into size 2 diapers, Jake because he needs to but Beth because they fit okay and she's being drug along to keep them both in the same size diapers for as long as possible. They giggle and laugh (yes, true laughs!) when they find something funny or are enjoying being played with, are mesmerized by big sister Abby's antics, and give great grins for Dad when he comes home from work. While still hanging out in 0-3 month clothes, they are starting to get tight on Jake so I'm thinking that within another month or so he at least will move up to 3-6 month sizes. Beth is so-so. She's still such a tiny peanut that she's fitting nicely into the 0-3 month stuff. I think I'll look and see what's available for her in the next size up to see when we move her. While they are sleeping much better when they're asleep they still wake every 2-3 hours at night and take four or so thirty minute naps during the daytime. One of their afternoon naps goes for over an hour if I'm lucky and if they sleep in bed with me at night they'll sleep longer than 3 hours. But my body is taking a hit from being old and contorting myself around them when they sleep with me, so I try to keep them in their crib for as much as possible.
Beth also had her one-month follow-up to check on her weight gain after going on reflux medicine. She passed with flying colors! She gained almost a pound in a month and is now a whopping 12 lbs. 6 oz. According to normal charts she's officially in the 1 percentile of weight for babies her age (Jake is also 1%). :-) Her pediatrician is going to look at the WHO charts for premature babies for our next visit to see where they fall on that chart since, obviously, the normal pediatric chart isn't a good fit for them.
These five months have flown by (life is still much of a daze lots of days), baby gear and toys have taken over our house, and I still feel like I'm barely handling life but these two munchkins make it all worth it!
