I have decided that the electrical items in our house should fear me.
First I broke the TV. I underestimated the length of the HDMI cable and in moving the TV to see if I liked it better in a different spot of the living room I tore the cable where it connects to the TV. By this I mean the male part was still inside the female spot of the TV but the copper wires and cord were no longer attached. Turns out I tore something inside the television as well as even when we tried a new HDMI cable the TV still only showed the green fuzzy screen of death. So the TV was done for.
Next I broke the digital picture frame. It kept falling over as the stand on the frame would collapse, so I figured it was because I wasn't opening the stand wide enough. I thought it would 'click' into place when I opened it wider. Instead it broke completely off. That's when I discovered the extendor piece that slid down to make the frame stand wider. Ugh. Fortunately Nate was able to glue the piece back on and the frame is back in commission.
Finally, I broke the treadmill. Which we'd had for three days. I wanted to turn on the ceiling fan but I was already on the treadmill so I decided to ride the treadmill back to the light ficture. Didn't realize that the treadmill had two plastic pieces at the end which covered the flooring material so when I rode all the way back my foot hit one of them and busted it right off. Double ugh. Once again Nate came to the rescue and was able to glue the piece back on and fix what I'd broken.
Nate has decided that the laptop should now begin fearing for it's life. :-)

One Year Ago Today
Dear Abby,
My Abigail, Abs, Mommy's Girl, Honey Bunny, Munch. One year ago today I found out I was pregnant with you. My first thoughts and were remain the same today "Thank you, God! Thank you, God! Thank you, God!" Of course today I say it with a happy grin instead of sobbing my eyes out with happiness. :-)
I remember my heart filling with joy at the thought of you and rushing to find my camera so I could take 'our' first picture - my belly! Telling your Dad about you was also a special moment that I still cherish. His face when he found out he was going to be a Dad was filled with joy, excitement, and a level of fear that was too cute. We didn't know then how much you would love we would have for you now.
Some day, a long, long, LONG time in the future you'll have one morning just like mine where you'll find out that you're a Mom. Then you'll know how much I love you and how very blessed I am to have you.
Thank you so much for being my daughter!

Nate's Haircut
Today I cut Nate's hair. Holy hannah, was that scary! I was so afraid of giving him a haircut that he hated or that made him look really, really stupid. While I definitely have a learning curve I don't think I did that badly. We did have a slight misunderstanding in that Nate said to read the directions to figure out how to cut his hair, so I thought that meant cut his hair like the directions said, whereas Nate just meant figure out how to use the clippers. So he's a little shorter on top than desired, but not weirdly looking. Thank goodness I didn't start with the '3' clipper like what he said his barber used and instead started with the '5'. Then he'd have looked like a shorn rat! Overall we're pretty happy with this and plan to have me cut his hair in the future, so he'll only get better looking (as if, as my man is just too handsome to begin with!)!

4 Month Checkup
Abby had her four month checkup today and once again my little girl is doing awesome!
Height Weight Head CM
Birth 19.5 in. 7 lbs. 0 oz.
1 Week 19.0 in. 6 lbs. 9 oz. 33cm
2 Months 22.0 in. 11 lbs. 6 oz. 38cm
4 Months 24.75 in. 15 lbs. 6 oz. 39.5 cm
According to her stats, Abby has a big height growth spurt and a decent weight increase. Still a cute, tiny head thought. :-) While this sounds like she should look funny (decently tall, totally chunky, and a teeny head) she just looks cute. This isn't a biased Mom talking either...her Doctor agreed that while the stats sounded a little weird she was a very pretty (and healthy!) little girl. I believe these growth stats as well as there are days where it feels like all Abby and I do is sit on the couch and nurse...and nurse....and nurse. Other days Abby spends her time grabbing at toys, sucking on her hands, pushing up on her arms, learning to roll from tummy-to-back then losing interest as being on her back and rolling side-to-side is way more fun, helping Mommy read books by turning the pages, standing strong on her legs (while holding on to someone, of course), 'talking' to people, and smiling her adorable smile at everyone she meets.

3 Months - Photo Shoot
Ack! This blog post is REALLY behind. I have no excuse!
Here's a link to the pictures we took of Abby at 3 months. Abby's 3 Month Pictures
I decided that I didn't want to take Abby in to have professional pictures done every month as some other parents had suggested. Mostly due to time and laziness. I just couldn't see making and keeping an appointment every single month. So instead a compromise! I had Abby professionally photographed when she was first born and again at three months. I'll also take her in at six, nine, and twelve months. Once she's a year old we'll do professional shoots for family portraits and other important events. I figure my Mom is a pretty good photographer, especially with the digital cameras of today, so she can take our day-to-day family pictures when I want one of the three of us. So until the next 'shoot' enjoy these pictures~

Moment of Stupidity
Or perhaps the title of this blog should say "Sleep Deprivation Causes Dumbness". We've been trying to get Abby to sleep in her bassinet at night which is going okay at the moment but causes me to wake up a lot more during the night (to check on her, put her paci back in, calm a bad dream, etc). I now have to get up enough to lean over the side of her bassinet where before she was tucked into my arms and I could do all of this in my sleep. Combine this with Abby, when she is in bed with us, wanting to sprawl on her back with no one touching her means that I'm also waking up when Abby begins to kick and squirm in her sleep to get away from me. Over all I'm really behind on sleep.
Where is this story going? Well, yesterday I was unloading the dishwasher and noticed that the strawberry (or mushroom) slicer still wasn't clean even after two rounds of washing. I decided to stop being lazy and hand wash the darn thing. The berry gunk was just being too stubborn so after a few minutes of intensely spraying it with the faucet hose I decided to attack it with my finger and a paper towel. Without a second thought I rammed my finger into the blades to push out the strawberry stuff. What I also ended up doing was shoving my middle finger on my right hand into and then through the very sharp blades. So dumb!
After much bleeding and a few admonishments to myself I turned to inspect the damage. What I saw was actually scary enough that I called Nate home from work to give me a second opinion on whether an emergency room visit was in our future. Thankfully Nate thought that, while a bad cut, it was in a place that would need to heal on its own. I was still glad I called him home, though as I ended up needing his help taking care of Abby as I kept jamming my finger into things hurting it all over again. I'll spare you pictures, but if you point your middle finger at you (so that you see the tip of the nail) about a quarter inch below the nail, running the entire nail is a cut that goes pretty deep. Deep enough that when I wiggle the skin on my finger a huge hole appears (no, I don't wiggle it anymore).
Why would I shove my finger into a very sharp object without pause? I can only say that I'm running on fumes and higher mental processing just isn't there right now. Hopefully more sleep is in my future!

Empty Arms
Last night my little girl, instead of sleeping for the night in her parents arms as she has done since day one, slept in her bassinet. sigh. My little girl is growing up.
Nate and I co-sleep. Actually, we technically bed-share as Abby sleeps with us in our bed and has since the day she was born. It started in the hospital when we both thought she was so little and helpless that we didn't want to put her down in the hospital cribs and instead held her as she, and then we, slept. When we took her home we continued the same routine. Mostly because we were so exhausted and having her sleep in our arms meant we didn't have to deal with her crying when we put her down. Yeah, we could have worked those first few weeks to teach her that sleeping on her own in her crib or bassinet was just fine, but we loved holding her so we didn't. As time went by we worked on having her sleep in her crib for naps (which she does most excellently!), but still held her for bedtime.
Last night we didn't plan on having her sleep on her own. It actually started because Abby had fallen asleep and Nate and I were still up. So at 10:30pm I put her down in the bassinet fully expecting to go and get her when she woke up crying in 20 minutes, but thinking that if she did go down for a bit longer than that then the bassinet in our room would be better for transitioning to the bed without waking her up too much rather than doing this from her crib across the house. Was I in for a surprise!
About 20 minutes after putting Abby down she cried for her pacifier but did so with her sleepy cry (eyes still closed and a different cry than "come pick me up, Mom!"), so I put her paci back in, soothed her forehead, and left. She went back to sleep! At midnight Nate and I decided we were ready for bed and I saw that she was still sleeping. After debating for a bit we decided to let her sleep in the bassinet for as long as she would instead of bringing her into bed with us. I thought this would give me a good night's sleep as I wouldn't have her in my arms waking me up.
Boy, was I wrong! I was up until almost 1:15am checking on her to make sure she was still breathing and missing her in my arms. I didn't realize how much I loved sleeping with her! Smelling her milk breath as she exhales, smoothing her ticklish hair away from my cheeks, and feeling her little kicks on my tummy as she settles in to sleep. I missed this!!! My little girl was awesome, though, as she slept in her bassinet until her 3:30am nursing. It took a bit to figure out how to get her from point A to B to nurse as normally I just roll on my side, but we did it!
Here's to my little girl growing up and starting to sleep in the bassinet all by herself! (And here's to Mom for letting her grow up even if she doesn't want to fall asleep without holding her baby!)

Thunder Storm
Last night we had a thunder and lightning storm. Nate and I decided that since it was only sprinkling a little we would take an evening walk and check out the sky activity off in the distance. We saw a bunch of lightning strikes in the sky and the most amazing sunset. At one point in time the sky was so bright orange (I think the sun was reflecting off the clouds) that it was almost as bright as noon-time. Right before heading in to the house we took a quick peak back at the storm and saw a double rainbow! I couldn't get it in the picture but the bottom rainbow was actually visible from one end to the other, whereas the top rainbow's bow faded off into the sky before completing an entire arc.
Just makes you realize how awesome and beautiful our world can be.

Memorial Weekend Camping
This past weekend my family (oh, how awesome is that to say!) and I went camping at La Wis Wis Campground just outside of Packwood, WA. Included in our camping fun were other family members (Mom and Dad) and friends (Andrew, Jessica, Joe, and Karen). This is our fifth year of camping at La Wis Wis over Memorial Day weekend and, like the camping trips before, a lot of fun. We spent the weekend reading, chatting, playing Corn Hole (a game that involved tossing sacks of corn into a hole on a board so many feet away), cooking, eating, visiting the Packwood Flea Market, and just hanging around camp.
As this was Abby's first camping trip I was a little worried on how she would do. Mostly with it being so cold (and how I would keep her warm while sleeping in the sleeping bags with us, but not smother her in trying to keep us both warm) and being so smokey from the campfire. Once again my worries were for naught. Abby did FANTASTIC! She loved staring at the fire, being passed around from arm to arm, and the fresh air. I say the fresh air as that girl slept like no bodies business. Seems like every time we turned around she was wanting to nurse and pass out. She also must have either really enjoyed or really disliked whatever I was eating as she had three explosive poops, two just contained within the diaper poops, and one just for fun I'll soil the diaper a bit poop. In four days. This from a girl who normally goes once every two to three days. Well, at least she cleaned her system out!
Nate and I enjoyed recharging our batteries with the fresh air and camp smells as well. Nate decided that he needed to really start studying for the Nuclear Professional Engineer (PE) test so as of this morning he's up at 6am and into work early to get at least an hour of studying done before beginning work. As this is a pretty gruling test I may slowly begin to 'lose' my husband until he takes the test October 28th. So, happily, our family enjoyed a fun weekend of camping to kick off the summer season!
