I am SO thankful that Nate is home today after a week of being in Charlotte, NC for a leadership conference for work. Two week-long business trips in a month (or really three weeks since he was only home seven days before leaving again) is super hard...on ME! The first week I was all "Abby and I are doing great, house is super-extra clean, I'm totally fun Mom... I'm AWESOME! This week has been "the food on the floor will eventually get picked up, no one died from watching all four Tinkerbell movies over and over again, and hey she's alive... I'm SO TIRED!

| Speaking of tired...Abby took a three hour nap today and when I went in to wake her up I couldn't help but take a picture. This was her "Mom quit shining the light in my face" pose after I'd taken a few pictures of her sleeping quietly. (Note: Normally I'm not crazy enough to wake a sleeping toddler, but as it was already 4pm and we needed to get to my parents house for them to take over watching her I risked it.) |
With Nate's help I think I finally discovered why I've been waking up at 5am every day since he's been gone. I kept wondering what in our house started up that early...the heat/air kicking on, the wind being extra windy at that moment, a neighbor needing to leave for work early this week, etc. When I mentioned all my ideas to him, Nate gave me a funny laugh and said "Nope, that's when you start hogging the bed and cuddling with me. I think you wake up because there's no one to cuddle with." Well, now that makes sense.
Abby is officially peeing in the potty! On Tuesday I was putzing around in the house when I suddenly realized that Abby was being quiet. Too quiet. I went on a mission to find out what mischief she was getting into when I heard noises coming from the guest bathroom. Upon opening the door I saw my little girl with her pants pulled down, her diaper half off, and attempting to take her shirt off. When she saw me she proudly proclaimed "Mom go potty! Mom go potty!". I figured I'd humor her and give her a couple praises but was sure that this was another "I go potty" moment where she simply sits on the toilet and then jumps right off. Imagine my surprise when I looked in the little potty and found that she'd actually peed! Since then she's gone multiple times in the potty and even had the child care ladies at the gym take her to the big girl potty. I'm so excited for this next stage of her development!
I'm also being reminded of what a cheap-skate I am. Abby is ready for pull-ups and a bigger sized diaper (size 6) for naps and nights, but I still have size 5 diapers left and I just can't throw them away and waste money like that. So Abby gets to be squished in too small diapers just another day or two.
My parents were awesome in taking Abby for two hours for me tonight so I could clean the house before Nate got home. I know that coming home to a clean house makes returning from a trip that much easier so I really wanted to clean the pit of gross that my house was, but was finding it difficult with Abby's "help". With her out shopping with the grandparents I was able to turn on my iPod at full blast and race around the house cleaning as fast as my fingers and feet would carry me. I say race because at one point in time I was moving a chair and chiding myself for not cleaning all the water off when I realized that it was actually some of my sweat that had fallen off of my face. Thank goodness I was too lazy to change out of my gym clothes from this morning!
It's a sad thing but I have to admit that I've watched all five Twilight movies three times each this week. Eek! The movies are so campy and cheesy but I just love watching them. Plus, they're one of the few movies we own on Amazon so that I don't have to get up off the couch to change the DVD when I want to watch the next movie in a series (i.e., my Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars DVDs). I read somewhere that Kristen Stewart used wigs in some of the movies to cut back on her prep time and after seeing these movies over and over you can totally tell. Even accounting for her potential hair growth over the two years that the movies take place her hairline and style change way too frequently. I feel so sad knowing that.
A bridge collapsed in my state today, but thankfully (at current press time) no one died. I can only imagine how scary that must have been for the drivers of the cars that fell into the water. I'm so thankful that no one was seriously injured or killed. Please prayer for the swift healing of those involved in the accident!
