Garage Project

This summer Nate began a project to create a usable attic for storage space above the garage. It started with building steps that would raise/lower from the ceiling to get into the attic, involved rewiring the attic for lights, followed by installing plywood for a floor, and then a fan to better cool the attic during the hot summers. After a few months working on this (as every step took a while) Nate decided that he really wanted to insulate the garage as well. When we first moved in the garage wall that connected to the house had been insulated and drywalled but nothing else. All the other walls were still open 2x4s or 2x6s. Needless to say that garage got very cold! After months of work Nate is 95% finished with the garage with just a few plywood floor pieces (the ones that needed unique cuts) to install in the attic and the attic fan still needing to go in. Our garage is a 1000% better! It's warm, it looks like a completed garage, everything has a place...it's just amazing. Plus, I'm so proud that Nate was able to do all this work by himself (or with my or his Dad to help - but no professionals involved!). Having a handy man in the house is a definite monetary blessing!

Nate did awesome insulating and painting around the water heater. He said it took 5 cuts to get all the plywood pieces just so.

One additional shelf purchased and everything is able to be put away. You can see the boards that Nate is cutting up to finish up the attic.

Nate did a fabulous job with this garage project! Now I just have to figure out more "honey do's" for him!
