The Carstens: House Interior Remodel: Days 0

When Nate and I moved into our house we knew that at some point in time we would be redoing the inside. The floor plan was fantastic but the paint and flooring were in need of repair. The floors were put in when the house was built in 2001 and were showing their wear and tear, including an iron burn mark in the kitchen (who irons in the kitchen anyways?). The paint appeared to be hastily slapped on the walls due thin coat, smudged lines where paint colors met, and many spots of various paint colors on the floor. However, when we first moved in we were in the midst of getting married and combining our two apartments into one house. It just wasn't the right time to discuss carpet, linoleum, paint, etc. Here we are two years later and we decided that we wanted a few years to enjoy our house updates before we moved on to bigger and better. So it was time to redo the interior of our house.

Abby's Room Before Remodel. Since we just painted her room less (a little over a year ago) we decided to leave the room painted as is but replace the carpet.

I consider this post to be "Days 0" because we started packing up our stuff right after Christmas. We had a vague "February" time frame for all the excitement, but without a specific date in mind we figured we'd pack up what we didn't use and just take our time with the process. We started slowly with the computer room, guest bedroom, linen closet, and guest bathroom. Then we seemed to stall a bit. Nate got busy with work, we visited his parents in Portland, had a hooky day here and there. Nothing really big but enough that it diverted our attention for a bit. On Wednesday, February 1st our painter called wanting to know if our carpet guy (who is actually my sister's boyfriend, Bo) had an idea for installation dates (as we were trying to get the two to work together to reduce the amount of time that we'd be out of the house). In talking to Bo we found out that we could actually start on Monday, February 6th. Ahhh!!! What do you mean we're going to start our remodel in 5 days?! Not only that but in those five days we had Nate working overtime for a big project and my nieces birthday to celebrate. It was crazy but we managed to pack up ALL of our belongings in three days and move ourselves temporarily into my parents home while ours was being remodeled. Here's to a fun week of redoing our house and living back at home with my parents! :-)

Our Garage is PACKED will all of our stuff. The larger furniture is in the horse trailer that my parents graciously lent us that's parked out in the driveway.
